Some GB medals up for grabs this weekend as Eilish McColgan runs tonight in the 10000m. It will be tough but since the Olympics she's been breaking records left, right and centre.

Chelmsford girl Jodie Judd also runs - her PB is about 1minute behind McColgan but she is also improving and is a strong, gutsy and smart runner so you never know.

Tomorow is the womens maraton too with Jess Piasecki and Charlie Purdue are our main hopes in the marathon. They are no.2 and no.4 in the all time fastest british women over the marathon but with all due they will probably have to improve significantly on their 2:22 and 2:23 times to be in contention for a mdeal. But it's a championship race so again you never know. Rose Harvey with a 2:27 PB needs to have the race of her life to be anywhere near the front.

Holly Bradshaw (Olympic Bronze last year) is out of the Pole vault. Snapped her pole in the warm up and retired from the comp.
Watching the Men's 100 heats. Prescod has run very close to Christie's British record this year. Might need to break it just to reach the final.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Zharnel Hughes 9.97 ran faster than Prescod who may not even get through.

Asher Smith runs her second fasted time ever in the 100 heats, looking back to her best.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Well I'm enjoying this, watched pretty much all of it so far, heats included, bar the Marathon & Race Walking.
No one else watching this then, too busy watching blonde ponytail football?

Most of it is in the middle of the night isn't it? So, no haven't watched it.

DAS ran PB but still finished 4th in the 100 metres I believe. Hopefully will do better in the 200 metres.

I haven’t watched athletics since 2012.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Didn't want to know the Asher Smith result DAM.
It's live in BBC3 from 7pm which is the morning session in Oregon and then from 1am for the evening session, been watching the 1 am session when it's repeated in the morning on BBC 1.

I've been tuning in. Timings for the big races are total fuckers though given the time difference.

Not a great turnout at the modestly sized stadium there either, seen as it's meant to be the 'home of athletics'. In 2017 the O/S was sold out more or less every night.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
The BBC don't seem to be bothering with putting together a daily highlights show (at least on iPlayer) which is disappointing.

And what's with the handing out the medals on the track just as the event is completed as opposed to a proper podium ceremony with national anthems?

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Was bound to happen Fifth, I'm watching the evening sessions on the highlights show on BBC in the morning.
They are showing the highlights later in the day at 4pm too.
It was a bit confusing at first, morning sessions are live on BBC from 7pm, them the evening sessions start at 1pm with highlights as above for those wondering.

It's not that full is it, Athletes is not that big in the US.

They are doing proper Medal ceremonies too, but handing out "instant medals" too this year.

You're right Woodford. I fast forward the bits I'm not fussed about seeing.

Laura Muir wins Bronze in the 1500, our first medal.

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Looks like there's highlights @1800 on BBC 2. Not sure if that's happened every day so far. Perhaps reserved for us winning a medal so i assume this is likely to be the only one :)

(Yes I know we'll likely win a couple more)

Great run by Muir. Such a shame she's running at the same time as a few absolutely brilliant athletes or she'd have a few more medals. I love that she's genuinely happy with any colour medal. Got her head screwed on right, that one..

Re: World Athletics Championships - Eugene Oregon
Pleased for Muir.

Seems like a pretty normal, down-to-earth girl with exceptional talent.

Lets see how Kerr and Wightman fair in the mens final tomorrow morning. 2 genuine medal chances as both are exceptional runners but for me it looks like such a difficult race to run unless you are head and shoulders above the rest - like Ingebrigstein who is probably the favourite.

But there are probably 6-7 in there that will genuinely believe that can get a medal so should be a really good race.
